Chelsea, the reigning Premier League champions, are currently having a rough patch following consecutive draws as they travelled to AMEX Stadium to contest Brighton & Hove Albion this afternoon with a depleted squad due to injuries and suspensions.
The Blues have dominated the Seagulls in previous meetings and the game this afternoon was highly competitive too. But a couple of goals within first 6 minutes made the difference as the visitors eventually clinched a crucial 4-0 win and regained the third spot in the league tally.
Chelsea had a blistering start of the game when Victor Moses’ cross from the right-wing got deflected and fell in the path of Eden Hazard whose thunderous strike ended up into the back of the net. Their second goal, however, was an outstanding team goal that started from Willian and the Brazilian himself doubled the lead from Michy Batshuayi’s backheel after a series of passes. Brighton didn’t give up though and kept on attacking persistently in order to get back into the game. They were unlucky though as Ezequiel Schelotto was fouled inside the box by keeper Willy Caballero but referee Jon Moss opted not to award them a spot-kick. Caballero, however, made a stunning reaction stop ten minutes later as he denied Hemed from point-blank range. The first-half ended 2-0 in favour of the visitors.
Brighton were more offensive in the second-half but Chelsea’s defensive resilience didn’t allow the hosts to cause menace. Caballero made one stunning one-on-one stop to deny Schelotto whereas Willian’s free-kick didn’t go in thanks to the custodian Matt Ryan and the woodwork. Chelsea found the back of the net yet again when an unstoppable Eden Hazard scored a trademark goal following a stunning dribble and Victor Moses did the icing on the cake with a composed finish picking up substitute Charly Musonda’s brilliant pass. The game thus ended 4-0 in favour of Chelsea and brought them back to winning ways.
