Three points will be all Jose Mourinho would want from the Saturday fixture of Burnley vs Manchester United.
Following Manchester City’s defeat against Liverpool, the Red Devils have reduced the points difference at the top of the league table, but their rivals are still 12 points ahead. Naturally, the Premier League giants cannot afford any more slip-up this season. And so, an emphatic win against Burnley will be the primary target for Paul Pogba and co.
Burnley, on the other hand, have been the surprise package this season. They started the campaign very well and were in top six for major part of the first half. However, the Clarets have gathered only three points from their last six matches. Most recently, Roy Hodgson’s Crystal Palace won 1-0 against Sean Dyche’s side, and the boss will want to cause an upset in the upcoming match to turn the tides around.
Burnley vs Manchester United – team news:
Reliable players Stephen Ward, Robbie Brady, Jonathan Walters and Chris Wood are out for Burnley, all due to knee injuries whereas midfielder Scott Arfield is doubtful ahead of this important outing. Goalkeeper Tom Heaton has also been missing the actions for quite some time now, but substitute Nick Pope has stepped up to the occasion and performed brilliantly so far. On the other hand, left back Charlie Taylor is also unsure and that might prompt Dyche to bring in Matthew Lowton in an unusual position for him. The starting eleven otherwise should not see any major change.
Manchester United, on the contrary, have less injury concerns. Only major names to miss this trip are Eric Bailly, Michael Carrick and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. However, tensions remain about the whole Alexis Sanchez transfer saga and so, pressure will be on Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Anthony Martial. The latter produced a spectacular show against Stoke City, scoring and assisting one goal each. Yet, he might have to make way for Marcus Rashford. Meanwhile, Marouane Fellaini has returned from injury and gave a short appearance in the last match. Mourinho can play him to partner Nemanja Matic in the midfield, and that would allow Pogba to play freely in a more attacking role.
Here is our predicted away eleven for the Burnley vs Manchester United fixture.
Key players: The home side will depend heavily on Ben Mee and his partners in defense to stop the likes of Lukaku and Pogba. United, on the other hand, will want Pogba to deliver once again. The Frenchman has been in exquisite form of late.
