Arsene Wenger has revealed that the club is close to sanction a deal for Alexis Sanchez and the Chilean may well be en route to Manchester United, but can play on Saturday as an Arsenal player if transfer doesn’t happen by then.
Arsenal boss was questioned about the latest on the Alexis Sanchez story and he said that there is a possibility that the 29 year old may leave North London.
“That is a story where you are well-documented in the media. I have not a lot to add to that. It can happen, it can as well not happen,” he said.
Wenger also said it was a “possibility” United midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan will be a part of the deal. There has been stories that it may well be a straight swap of the players with no cash involved and Wenger admitted that it may happen.
Sanchez is poised to join Manchester United
“I like the player,” added Wenger. “We played many times against him when he was at Dortmund. He appreciated the quality of our games. The wages would not be a problem.”
Arsene Wenger also said that the transfer is quite delicate at this moment and it can break down at any moment, and if that happens, Sanchez will play on Saturday for the Gunners against Crystal Palace.
Mkhitaryan is someone who is admired by Wenger
Sanchez is out of contract on June and he declined a new deal at the Emirates, although he was poised to join Man City in August, a late bid by City was rejected as Arsenal couldn’t sign Thomas Lemar from Monaco in time.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan is also expected to come at the Emirates if Sanchez joins United, but there have been reports that the Armenian haven’t decided what he will do yet. It is understood that the Gunners boss will accept the deal only if Mkhitaryan comes in the other way, but all of this at the moment is very tricky to say the least.
