The Gunners have signed Mavropanos from Greek side PAS Giannina and the young defender says that he has been following the Gunners for the last 12 years. He was also very stoked to join the North London side and didn’t hide his ecstasy.

“I’m very happy to be part of this team, I promise to give everything to please the fans,” Mavropanos told Arsenal. “It’s a big honor and I’m very happy, very emotional.”

And along with that he also shared the moment he started to follow his current suitors, as it goes back more than a decade ago in 2006 when Arsene Wenger’s side played Barcelona in the Champions League final.

“I remember the first time I started watching Arsenal, it was the 2006 Champions League final. Everybody was talking about Ronaldinho then, but what I was most impressed with was the passion that the Arsenal players were playing with.”

“They may have been down to 10 players early on after Lehmann’s sending off, but they played much better than Barcelona overall. They might have lost in the end but I was really impressed with their performance. Since then I started to watch Arsenal more closely.”

The Greek defender also has followed many players of Arsenal but according to him the stand out player in his mind has been Thierry Henry, as the 20 year old said that Henry was dynamic, quick and could score goal from anywhere.

Mavropanos is thought to be someone who is for the future and initially after the move he was poised to join some Bundesliga club on loan, but Arsene Wenger was impressed with his training and decided to keep him until the end of the season. The Greece youth international has already made to the bench on one occasion, and played his first match as an Arsenal player in the youth team.
