Chelsea, despite being last season’s Premier League champions, have struggled in the transfer market so far and mostly failed to recruit prime targets on repeated occasions. The likes of Alvaro Morata, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Davide Zappacosta, Antonio Rudiger, and Danny Drinkwater are yet to match the level of expectation whereas the January arrival of Ross Barkley hasn’t excited the fans.

Barkley, 24, was close to complete a Chelsea transfer on the summer deadline but chose to stay at Everton until he gets fit from his long-standing injury. A £15 mil move finally occurred earlier this month and the young Englishman has taken a bold career step amid confusions.

The former Evertonian has represented England is several youth ranks and earned 22 senior caps already at such a young age. He was hailed as England’s brightest prodigy a couple of years back and his stupendous league outings earned him high praise and acknowledgement from the football fraternity. The midfield attacker has netted 27 goals in 179 appearances for the Toffees but his career growth has not been the same as it should have been in past two years.

Barkley had an impressive 2013-14 season but failed to match that level during the next campaign. Again he uplifted his game during the 2015-16 season but was a shadow of his earlier self the last term. The 6 ft 2 in midfield starlet is strong, has great shooting and passing traits, hailed for his mobility and link-up play along with great finishing attributes. He has almost everything to flourish as one of league’s best but currently needs to shake off his recent lows and opt for a fresh start under Antonio Conte.

Barkley’s presence will ease the pressure from Eden Hazard who is now being used in a makeshift ‘number 10’ role instead of his preferred left-wing slot. The Englishman will fit straight in that attacking midfield role which will allow Hazard to be back in his usual self which, in turn, will create more opportunities for an isolated Alvaro Morata upfront.

Chelsea have struggled to score goals following three consecutive scoreless draws and the presence of Barkley might just help the ex-Azzurri and Juventus boss to take their derailed campaign back on track for the rest of the campaign.

The player, however, needs to step up his game first to make sure of a successful career move and earn a regular status for the Blues where he will have greater goals to achieve.
