Liverpool vs Manchester City : How the Reds rated against Pep Guardiola’s side

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was the pick of the lot as the Reds gathered three points against Manchester City.


It was a great game as Liverpool punctured Manchester city’s heralded record at the Anfield. Both sides proved their bravery in the contest but at the end, all smiles belonged to the men in red as they prevailed 4-3 in the match.

Goals from Bernard Silva and Ikay Gundogan gave City some glimpses of hope but the hosts Liverpool held firm for a much deserved victory. The match produced 7 goals as both sides showed potency in the attacking position about the finished in a high level of intrigue and expectation. Loras Karius 5.5

The young goalkeeper shots should have done better at the edge of Liverpool box when Leroy Sane’s shot slipped into the net. He was ball watching as Otamend’s header clipped the crossbar. He needs improvement to keep his Place in Goal.


Joe Gomez 6.0

The defender showed his interest in experience as Leroy sane easily got past him for the equalizer for city needed Ederson to save.

Dejan Lovren 6.5

The captain of the day was very good at the back and his resilience managed to hold off Aguero and co for a very long time. It really seems that Lovren is getting back his touch, after the controversies earlier this season.

Joel Matip 6.0

The German-born Cameroonian international had a moderate day at Liverpool’s defence as he supported Lovren. Should have done better to prevent Sane’s equalizer with great awareness

Andrew Robertson 6.0

The defender did well to shut down sterling on the left wings. He made a couple of interceptions and was strong in challenges as well but need a bit of experience and calmness at the back.

Georginio Wijnaldium 6.5

The Dutch midfielder showed strength and energy in the tie but need to make a better pass to get Liverpool ticking together in transition.

Emre Can 6.5

The German was strong in challenge against City as he made it tough for De Bruyne in the middle. He made some good attacking foray into the opposing area and tested City goal as well with a smart shot.

Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain 7.5

The former Arsenal man got Liverpool into the lead (1-0) in exemplary fashion as his class was well written all over the goals. He made the assist that set things going for Liverpool via Firmino’s goal. A superb showing to douse the absence of Coutinho from the game.

Sadio Mane 7.0

The Senegalese talent was a constant threat against City with his strength and skill as he opposed De Bruyne from the middle on occasion. He scored a brilliant goal to set the tone for a Liverpool win.

Roberto Firmino 7.0

The Brazilian was sharp in attack as he made the best of Alex-Oxlade’s Pass through the middle to give Liverpool the lead. He was strong in the challenge via the goal and was relatively active in the game.

Mohamed Salah 8.0

The Egyptian showed accuracy and precision with a level of awareness as he profited from Ederson’s error to score from almost the half way line. The forward showed flair and persistence on the ball as he troubled City down in transition.

James Milner 6.0

The Veteran came on to add shore things up in midfield as Liverpool attempted to sh4t City down going forward and he did just that with touch of experience to help secure the win.

Adam Lallana 3.0

The English man made a poor first touch on his entrance into the match as he lost the ball in the City’s area. The midfield player could not co-ordinate things as Liverpool lost their rhythm in the closing stages.

He was brought on to ensure that City did not get another goal in the injury time. The player was used for time wasting as his substitution took some seconds out of the time added on.
