Arsenal are ready to make a move for Leicester City star Riya Mahrez, according to various reports.
The Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has been a long time admirer of the Leicester star and Algerian outlet Le Buteur reports that the Frenchman is revitalizing his thoughts of bringing the Algerian at the Emirates and considering an official bid in January.
The winger was reportedly contacted by Arsenal at the start of last season but no deals were done that time, even this season was an option for the Gunners to bring him in but Arsene Wenger opted to keep Alexis Sanchez and didn’t bid for the Algerian hotshot.
“I don’t know what happened,” Mahrez told the Daily Mail earlier this month when asked why Arsenal or Barcelona, who were also strongly credited with an interest in him, failed to make official bids during the closed season.
“It’s football. You never know what will happen.”
Mahrez is to be raided for by Arsenal
Mahrez handed a transfer request at the start of this season but remained at the King Power after only attracting a move from Serie A side AS Roma. But it is quite evident that sooner or later the 26 year old is making a move to any of the big European names.
Arsenal are reported to be interested again after Mahrez’s recent resurgence in form this season as the former Le Havre man has netted 4 goals in his last 8 appearances for the Foxes. Mahrez was instrumental in Leicester’s astonishing title winning season in 2015-16 as the Algerian scored 18 goals for them that season.
Riyad is a 34 caps international for Algeria
Wenger may be bringing him as a replacement of Alexis Sanchez who is poised to join Manchester City at the end of the season after not renewing his contract, but the North London club may well be letting the Chilean up for grabs in January when the window opens.
