Four major talking points ahead of last Premier League gameweek of 2017

Manchester United need to bounce back and get three points this weekend.

Another calendar year is about to come to an end, and the Premier League has taken a brilliant shape, as always.

After gameweek 20, Manchester City, still unbeaten in the league, sits very comfortably at the top of the flock. They are 15 points clear of second placed Manchester United, who dropped points in consecutive two games now. Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal have not been very consistent so far in the campaign, but they have been able to aim for the top four. A certain Harry Kane is carrying Tottenham with numerous goals, while Burnley and Leicester City have been very good of late.

Here is how the top of the Premier League table looks at the moment, and let us see what awaits us in the upcoming gameweek, the last one before the new year kicks in.

Will Manchester United drop points again?

Jose Mourinho’s side were performing well, until they faced their city rivals. Perhaps the absence of Paul Pogba cost them dearly in that match, which affected their performances in subsequent outings as well. Manchester City managed to snatch three points at Old Trafford, and then United struggled against teams like Bournemouth and West Bromwich.

Albeit they won these two games in the end, they could not do the same against Leicester City and Burnley. Both of the last two games ended in 2-2, and the Red Devils have almost ensured the title for Pep Guardiola’s side. More importantly, the confidence of the high-flying team seems to have taken a hit. So, it will be interesting to see whether they can get an easy win against a struggling Southampton side this Saturday, or if it will be another forgettable outing for Romelu Lukaku and co.

Fab four ready to score:

Liverpool are totally banking on their fab four – Mo Salah, Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane. The first two, in particular, are in fabulous form at the moment and they are scoring in almost every match. This weekend, Liverpool will face Leicester City, who were in decent form since the change in the managerial position. But, after remaining unbeaten in five games, the Foxes’s form has taken a blow. Over the last three matches, they could collect a single point. Naturally, it will be difficult for them to stop the likes of Salah and Coutinho and the viewers should expect a thrashing from the Reds.

Shooting boots are missing for Eden Hazard:

The Chelsea talisman is not at his best this Premier League campaign. He missed a few games in the beginning of the season, and was slowly getting back his form after that. But, following the brace he scored against Newcastle, the midfielder has not found the nets in five matches. He only had an assist to his name in these five games. In total, Hazard has scored five Premier League goals so far, and that is surely a concern for Antonio Conte. As the Blues are getting ready for the home game against Stoke City, the Belgian will definitely want to finish the year on a high note.

Inspiring form of Burnley:

Sean Dyche has been phenomenal this Premier League season. Burnley currently sits at the seventh spot, right after the big six, and they are only five points off the fourth position. Last week’s match was very special for the side, as they managed to get a point against Manchester United at Old Trafford. In fact, they were 2-0 up in the first half, but a Jesse Lingard double helped the home team save some grace. Previously, Burnley won against Chelsea and got a point against Liverpool. This weekend, they are going to face Premier League newbies Huddersfield, and the Clarets should not find it hard to get another three points.

Other than the above four games, Arsenal and Manchester City are expecting to get three easy points while Swansea and Bournemouth will desperately aim for a win to help them get out of the relegation zone.
