When the world seems certain that Liverpool FC’s Brazilian forward Philippe Coutinho is certain for a move to Catalan Giants FC Barcelona next summer, or even this winter, Brazilian legend and former Japanese manager Arthur Antunes Coimbra aka Zico has something else in his mind.
The 1982 Brazilian star, who is termed as the “White Pele” has expressed his views on this ongoing saga regarding the possible transfer of Coutinho.
According to reports, Zico has advised the current Liverpool number 10 not to leave Merseyside any time soon. He feels that at Barcelona, the Brazilian attacker will be playing pretty much second fiddle (or fourth) to the likes of Lionel Messi, Andrés Iniesta and (his former team mate at Anfield) Luis Suarez, if he indeed decides to move to Barcelona.
The ongoing transfer saga began in the summer when the Brazilian handed in a transfer request to the club just before the season started.
Barcelona have been interested in the player and had their 100 million plus bid rejected by the 18-time English champions in the summer.
Liverpool management and manager Jurgen Klopp have been adamant that they won’t let Coutinho leave and have expressed openly regarding the same.
Philippe Coutinho has been the best player for Liverpool FC in the past few seasons, and has been hugely consistent ever since his arrival from Italian Giants Inter Milan back in 2013 January.
Things seemed set as the Brazilian called the “Little Magician” signed a 5-year contract with no release clause last January (that sees him tied to the club up until 2022) before he asked for the transfer request.
The 25-year old has scored 54 goals in 200 appearances for his club and has already netted 12 times from 18 appearances in all competitions this season.
It will be important to say what Coutinho decides, as it is needless to say that letting him leave will be a huge loss for Liverpool.
