Arsenal defender Maitland-Niles speaks about his unhappiness as Arsenal were held by Liverpool on Friday

He has started two league games this season.

Arsenal were up against a tough Liverpool side and managed to come away with a draw at the Emirates on Friday. Arsene Wenger fielded a team that included 20 year old Ainsley Maitland-Niles who was playing as a left back.

Maitland-Niles had a good duel against Salah

It was obviously a tough game for the young man but he did reasonably well against the likes of Mohamed Salah and Coutinho. And the young defender admits that he never played a game of this stature in his life before.

“Nah, never before in my life! But it was a great experience being out there and I think we showed real character to come back in the game.”
He also said that the pattern of English game has changed a bit as more teams are strategically looking to play counter attacking football and also claimed that he personally thinks that he did quite well against Salah, also admitting there are still some things he is getting slowly.

Arsene Wenger has shown his faith on Maitland-Niles in the expense of new signing Sead Kolasinac, and the 20 year old was quite solid in winning the ball and tracking back the players.
“I guess it’s just how to deal with those powerful, attacking players that love to score goals and run past you;. It’s a learning curve to play against them and use their weaknesses against them,” he said when he was asked what he learnt from the game.
Arsenal’s five minutes magic and three goals turned the game around as the Gunners led from a two goal deficit, but eventually conceded one to share the spoils, and the young defender is not happy on that and believes that they should have seen the game through.

“Not at all. We should have won the game because we were ahead. There was no reason for us to drop points so I’m disappointed with the performance really,” he further added.
