A solitary Mesut Ozil volley was enough for Arsenal a the Gunners have come back to winning ways in the Premier League after a slender 1-0 win over Newcastle on Saturday.
Setting The Scene:
Arsenal were without a win in three League games whereas the Tyneside team had just got 1 points in their last eight games. Arsene Wenger had Lacazette back in the starting line up but Maitland Niles retained his place as the left back.
Arsenal had the better of the possession in the early exchanges and Maitland Niles came close after his darting run through the middle was not optimized as he hit the shot on the side nettings. It was Mesut Ozil who gave Arsenal the lead as the German struck a sublime volley from a scuffed clearance of the Newcastle defense. He came close again but it was saved by Elliot to stop any further lead for the Gunners. It was just one goal dividing the two sides at the break.
Ozil celebrating after his stunning goal
Gunners were expected to rally the game forward in the second half and put the game to the bed, but it was not the case. Sanchez, Ozil and Lacazette all came close but couldn’t extend Arsenal’s lead. The visitors had their chances as well but Cech saved from any catastrophe. Xhaka particularly was poor again and made many mistakes which could have been punished. In the end it was just not enough from the North East side as Arsene Wenger’s men hanged on to get a pivotal win in the Premier League.
