City started off the match in a much more attacking manner and also received a few free kicks and has a few clear chances to score a goal within the first 40 minutes of the game, however, United’s defense was resilient enough to see off the Man City attack which was mostly led by Spaniard David Silva. Mourinho men might have been able to fend off the Man City attack in the first half but, the deadlock was indeed broken by David Silva in the 43rd minute who scored a pretty easy opening goal from six yards out. The first half ended with the scores level at 1-1.

As the second half began, it did not take long for City to regain their lead as Otamendi made up for his blunder and scored the second goal of the match and gave Pep Guardiola’s side the 2-1 lead, in the 53rd minute. As the clock ticked down, Jose Mourinho was in a desperate need of the hero and in came former Sweden captain Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who received a massive cheer from the crowd. However, Ibra also was not able to save his side as Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson was almost unbeatable in the second half as he made some scintillating saves during the final minutes of the match favour match ended 2-1 in favor of Manchester City, who extended their unbeaten run to 14 and ended United’s unbeaten home run in 40 games.
