Injuries are no less than a nightmare in a player’s career, but how does it sound when a fellow professional ‘hopes’ for injury to his rivals so that he and his side could catch up the league leaders in order to become relevant in the title race?
Believe it or not, Manchester United’s Paul Pogba made such a bizarre and weird statement in a recent interview on BBC’s Football Focus.
Manchester City, United’s city rivals have been enjoying a flying inception of the new campaign with 13 wins out of 14 league outings and are eyeing to stretch the gap to eight points when they will host a struggling West Ham United at Etihad this evening.
Pogba missed out a few games due to injury but now hoping for the same to his bitter rivals:
“I hope – and it’s bad to say things like this – but I hope they will get some very important players injured like what happened with us.”
City, under Pep Guardiola, are frontrunners for the Premier League glory but Pogba’s statement now has generated controversy and the rivals are bashing him via social media following such a distasteful interview.
They’ve fallen so far behind us that they’ve got their best player wishing injuries upon our players to catch up.

Injuries have ruined the career of so many, took lives on the football pitch and forced top talents to retire early. From 20-year-old Abdelhak Nouri’s permanent brain damage to Cheick Tioté’s collapsing to death – these incidents still haunt the football fans across the globe. Santi Cazorla’s painful aftermath of an ankle injury left Arsene Wenger baffled. Examples are plenty, even no one wants to see much-esteemed Paul Pogba struggling with injuries.
You might say it ‘karma’ but Pogba will now miss the Manchester derby next week following his mischievous studs-up challenge on Bellerin that resulted in a straight Red Card during United’s 3-1 win over Arsenal at Emirates. The Frenchman, who was praying for injuries to his title rivals, will now miss a few games through suspension.
