Arsenal have sent scouts to monitor Porto ace Danilo Pereira, according to reports and it suggests that Manchester United are also in the race to sign him.
Danilo has gained interest from top European clubs
According to Sun, the Gunners have already recruited chief scout Steve Rowley to scout him and he is making final reports for Pereira. Arsenal have long been linked with 6ft 2in defensive midfielder Danilo, while United boss Jose Mourinho keeps a strong interest in players from his former club, who is an important player of the current Porto league leaders with 34 points after 12 games.
Pereira has been a key player for Porto in the centre of midfield and Arsenal need someone in that position to shield the defense and make his presence felt. Granit Xhaka has been error prone and reckless sometimes while another defensive midfielder Francis Coquelin hasn’t been up to the mark this season. So Wenger wants to bring the strong midfielder to strengthen his squad and add some metal and some weight in the midfield.
Danilo joined Porto in 2015 from fellow Portuguese club Maritimo and since has been an integral part of the squad. He is known for his strong tackles and sniffing the danger and positioning himself according to that. The 26 year old also has an eye for goal as he scores a goal in every 6 matches for Porto so far.
Arsene Wenger is interested but he will have to rival Jose Mourinho to land his man, as the Manchester United boss is also keen and may have an advantage being a fellow countryman of Danilo. There also have been news that PSG are also keen for himbut for now the Premier League giants are the front runners.
Danilo is a 27 time capped player for Portugal and was a member of Portugal’s Euro winning squad last year in France.
