Champions League: Basel vs Manchester United Preview, Team News, Betting Odds and TV Guide

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is back for Manchester United.


Manchester United will be aiming to absolutely sure their qualification in the next round of UEFA Champions League when they travel to Swiss side FC Basel on Wednesday. Win will mean five wins out of five for the Red Devils after a comeback in the Elite tournament.

Injury News:

The Swiss side only have one injured player as striker Ricky Van Wolfswinkel, otherwise they have a full squad.

Man Utd will be missing Eric Bailly, Phil Jones and Michael Carrick while Argentine defender Marcos Rojo is doubtful but could feature.

Team News:

Basel are expected to go with their 3-2-4-1 formation while they will have striker Dimitri Oberlin back in the squad. Vaclik is expected to start on goal while Taulant Xhaka, their reliable midfielder will have no part to play as he is suspended.

Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic both returned from injury for United in the previous weekend and one of them may feature in the squad, most likely the Frenchman. Along with Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera, Fellaini or Matic will be the holding midfielder while Lukaku will be on his own as striker.

United will be eyeing to get something of the game as it will seal their qualification. Mourinho’s men were outstanding in their weekend victory over Newcastle as returning Pogba played 70 odd minutes and also scored a goal. Basel on the other hand will also be desperate to get something out of this game as they also are int he contention to make it to the knock out stages of Champions League. Both the sides are second in their domestic leagues but United are almost certain to finish top of this group if they manage one point of their last two matches.

Mourinho will be happy to secure qualification in this match and let some of the young players play in their final encounter against CSKA Moskva.
