Revealed: Wenger says derby display can’t ensure that Ozil and Sanchez will renew their contracts

Arsene Wenger spoke to the media after Arsenal’s outstanding victory over Tottenham and the French manager was high on praise for his two frontmen Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.

The Gunners boss was questioned about the performance of Ozil and Sanchez and he was quick to hail them for their superb displays.

“They’ve shown their commitment again today. I’ve never questioned their commitment.”
The Gunners boss added that he never have had doubts over their commitments and always had the believe that the duo will give their everything on the field, it is just a way of media to mark out a player when he is on the last year of contract and has a bad game, there are talks about his commitment which is not the case.

Ozil was subbed off with a lot of claps as fans sang his song loud

But Wenger also formulated that it doesn’t mean they are going to sign the contract extension.
“I just said that I’ve been in this job long enough to know that’s not enough. The quality of the contract has to be good and enough for them as well. I am convinced that they love the club and they love the team,” Wenger said when he was asked about if Ozil and Alexis will be convinced to sign a deal after their sublime show.

Wenger believes Sanchez wants to stay

The Arsenal boss also added that he alone can’t decide what will happen but something will be decided soon. He further added that the quality of contracts is an issue as both parties will have to come on terms regarding that and players need to be happy as well.
“I believe that they love the club, they want to stay, but there are other top clubs out there who offer good contracts as well,” he concluded.
Arsenal now travel to Cologne to face FC Koln in the Europa League on Thursday and then they face Burnley back in Premier League next Sunday.
