The first half of the game was an end to end exciting affair. Both sides created some chances, Chelsea being the dominant one in the half. However, the score remained 0-0 at the break. De Gea, in particular, was spectacular with his saves. In three occasions, Bakayoko, Morata and Hazard failed to beat the Spaniard between the sticks.

Unfortunately, the United custodian’s record did not remain intact in the second half. Ten minutes after the break, while stopping a Chelsea attack, Jones was spotted out of position trying to stop a pass to Bakoyoko and that left huge gap in the defense. Consequently, Azpilicueta found Morata with a perfect cross in that gap, and the former Real Madrid man made no mistake to guide a fabulous header to the goal.

After scoring the opener, the hosts did not want to sit back. With United starting to move forward time and again, Morata and co tried to capitalize on the void in the away defense. But, they could not break De Gea’s resilience again. On the other end, Courtois also had to pull off some stunning saves, most notable one being a dying minutes scorching save off Manchester United substitute Fellaini. In the end, Chelsea vs Manchester United ended in a narrow in for Antonio Conte’s men. With this victory, Chelsea reduced the gap with second placed United to a single point, while Manchester City comfortably sit at the top, eight points ahead of the Red Devils and the Spurs.
