Arsenal are interested to sign Dinamo Zagreb defender Filip Benkovic, according to reports but they will have to rival their London neighbors to land him.
According to Calciomercato, Gunners are also in the race for the defender but Chelsea and Tottenham are also tracking his situation and are interested. So it promises to be a three way fight for the 20 year old, who has been enhancing his reputation after some decent displays with the Croatian side.
Benkovic in action for Dinamo Zagreb
Benkovic has been an agile defender for Zagreb, and on his third season at the club, since making progress through Zagreb’s academy. He has been a regular at the club for a couple of seasons now and has also represented Dinamo Zagreb in Europe.
He is known as Big Ben in Croatia and another club who are tracking him is Italian club Inter Milan, as Luciano Spalletti wants the £17 million centre back at the San Siro.
The 20 year old is wanted by Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs
Arsenal still are in the pole position to land him in next summer but a high transfer fee demand may well stop the Gunners. The 6’4″ defender has been a goal threat also in the Croatian league, scoring 3 goals already this season.
The Croatia Under 21 International may also opt a move at the Emirates as he believes that under Arsene Wenger he can flourish as a player, but it is to be seen what happens with that.
Gunners already have the likes of Chambers, Mustafi, Holding in their squad but Mertesacker will retire after this season with Koscielny also nearing his flag end of the career, so Wenger will be eyeing for a proper replacement for them.
Gunners will travel to Etihad to face league leaders Man City in a crucial clash on Sunday before the International break.
