Arsenal are up against Man City in the league on Sunday and the Gunners will be missing the service of key defender Shkodran Mustafi, who is out with a muscle injury.
Mustafi injury against Azerbaijan
Mustafi suffered a muscle injury back in October while playing for Germany against Azerbaijan, it was expected that he may well just be fit enough to play against City but Wenger dismissed the chances of him playing at Etihad on Sunday in the blockbuster clash.
While being questioned about the date of Mustafi’s return, the Arsenal manager said, “City is too early as well for him, we have to be a bit more patient with him.”
Mustafi will be short for the City match
Also the likes of Danny Welbeck and David Ospina are out and Wenger confirmed both the players are training but will be short for the clash against the league leaders. Instead of Ospina, reserve keeper Matt Macey has been playing in the last couple of cup games and has done well.
Welbeck has scored 3 goals for Arsenal this season
Another player who will be out on Sunday is defender Calum Chambers, who is also back in full training but will be available for selection only after the international break, and Santi Cazorla yet to come back after he recently revealed how horrific his infection was.
It has to be seen how Arsenal cope without Mustafi as the former Valencia defender played extremely well in their last big away clash at Stamford Bridge, scored a goal as well but unfortunately it was ruled out as offside.
The back three of the North London side on Sunday looks like Koscielny, Mertesacker and Monreal but Mertesacker’s lack of pace against the likes of Jesus and Sane may well be a pivotal factor.
Gunners will play another high voltage match right after the international break, when they face Spurs at the Emirates.
