Giroud celebrating after his wonder goal

When asked about Giroud’s goal, the Arsenal boss revealed that Giroud already had spoken to him during the course of the game that he will score.

“Well at some stage he came to the touchline and told me he would score. I don’t know that’s certainly no more than I did, but I think that’s Olivier Giroud.”

Wenger praised Giroud’s mentality and said that the Frenchman’s belief in himself makes him score astonishing goals at tough times. People may not necessarily expect him to score but he always delivers and that is such a good thing to have for a manager.

Wenger was also all in praise for his younger players as Reiss Nelson and Joe Willock were extremely impressive in the match. More than their performance, their mentality and temperament in that extremely daunting atmosphere was something of an indication of the players’ maturity as a player.

“To play in such a heated atmosphere shows how much resilience to stress, which is an important quality at our level,” the Arsenal boss added.

Debuchy made his first Arsenal appearance yesterday

Also making a return to Arsenal squad was Mathieu Debuchy and he also put up a decent performance against Red Star Belgrade. Wenger was pleased about him and said that he was relieved as Debuchy could play full ninety minutes without any new problems. Arsenal boss was also pleased with his resilience and how he handled at his make shift position. Debuchy joined Arsenal in 2014 and since then has made only a handful of appearances due to several injury woes.
