Transfer News: Barcelona join the race for Chelsea target Napoli defender

Koulibaly was also wanted by Everton but the Toffees failed to sign him.


Barcelona have joined the race for Chelsea target and Senegal international Kalidou Koulibaly, according to many reports. the Napoli defender was a long term target for Chelsea but now the London club will be rivaled by the Spanish giants.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde wants to land him at the Camp Nou but it will be difficult for them as their sporting director Robert Fernandez believes that Koulibaly’s fee may be it too much high for the Catalans’ liking and valuation.

Chelsea are interested in him after the Senegalese had a superb season at the Serie A. He was instrumental in the heart of Napoli defense and even this season he has started extremely well. The former Metz man has played every minute of the league campaign this season and has helped Napoli to sit at the top of the table with 8 wins in eight matches.

The London side will be pushing for their man as Conte will be happy to splash a hefty cash for the Senegal international, which may rise up to  £59 million from Roma’s perspective. But Barcelona are also hopeful that they may well be landing the defender and they have also seen him in Napoli’s last week match against Roma.

Napoli are at the top of Serie A table

A long built, strong defender, the 26 year old is known for his positioning and intercepting skills along with a good football brain. He is also imposing in the air and is termed as ‘beast’ among Napoli faithfuls.


Chelsea failed to sign him this summer and finally could only sign Antonio Rudiger from Roma, but it is believed that Conte will again bid for him next summer. On the other hand Barcelona boss Valverde will also be monitoring his situations and try to persuade the Senegal man at the Camp Nou.

Koulibaly joined Napoli from Belgian side Racing Genk in 2014, and he started his career with French club Metz.
