Chelsea vs AS Roma : Three things to expect from the Champions League duel

It will be an interesting affair between Chelsea and Roma and there are certain things to look forward to.

Chelsea entertains the Italian outfit AS Roma at home with three points at stake following shambolic outings which resulted in defeat for both sides at the weekend.

The Blues lost 2-1 away to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park Stadium while the visiting AS Roma sides lost at home to visitors Napoli 0-1 at Stade Olimpico. Both sides will be raring to go as they seek resurgence in the match Day 3 of the Champions League this season.

With Chelsea ripped apart away from home by Crystal Palace at the weekend and AS Roma struggling to find their feet against Napoli in the Serie A there are certain things to look forward to in this match, at least from Chelsea point of view.

Several changes:

The Blues were a letdown to their standard as they let in two goals from the run of play. Zaha was the visitor’s major threat as Crystal Palace picked up their first points of the season.

This, without questions and hesitations, calls for a squad evaluation ahead of the all important clash at Stamford Bridge.

With Michy Batshuayi falling to take his chances, coupled with the uncertainty regarding Morata’s recovery from injury, there are certainly going to be some personnel permutation and team debate during player selection. The injury to Nigerian star (Chelsea right wing back) Victor Moses offers more chance and clear cut reasons to alter their Match Day 3 Squad. Most likely, Davide Zappacosta will get a starting call in this game against Roma.

Massive Response from Chelsea:

The Blues might have lost unceremoniously to lowly rated Crystal Palace who picked up their first point of the season but there are some level of expectations on the Chelsea side going into the fixture.

The English Champions will be expected to pull themselves together at home and overcome the Italian side as things get tougher in the UEFA Champions League in terms of qualifying for the knockout stages. But, Moses’ unavailability and Morata’s injury in line with the low confidence that exist among the Chelsea mix are certainly going against the home side.

On the other hand, they lost to Manchester City at home before the international break; this may have cast some doubt on Chelsea’s ability to overcome strong opposition with their recent poor form. However, 90 minutes will go thus far in deciding Chelsea’s fate in the current campaign as a win against the Italian will afford the English Champions the chance to get a favourable draw in the knockout draw of the elite competition.

League Comparison:

The Chelsea vs AS Roma match offers some level of statistical comparison between two of the best Leagues within the course of the 90 minutes. Serie A had come under some certain form of criticism with Juventus being unchallenged en route to the title by top sides like Napoli, AS Roma and AC Milan unlike in the Premier League where every match is a real ball game.

This will be put to test as the Italian side face English Champions Chelsea at their home, with the return leg coming in the next couple of weeks.

In the past years it has been a tug of war with teams from these two leagues as seen in the Arsenal vs AC Milan match coupled with the Chelsea vs Juventus under Antonio Conte’s regime in Italy with the Serie A giants Juventus.

Both Leagues have had their moment of being in ascendance over the other but this clash presents us with the chance to make further evaluation on current stance within the course of the contest.
