WC Qualification South America : The Key Matches and latest Updates 1st Phase

International break will be special for a lot of World Cup qualification matches.

The South American(CONBEMOL) World Cup Qualification is at it’s terminal stage and 10 South American countries are fighting for a berth in Russia next year. So far Brazil have already qualified for the World Cup, but still three automatic spots and one play off spot is up for grabs and it is to be believed that seven countries are still in shout for a qualification with just two match days to go.

Match Day 17:

The match day 17 will be the 1st phase matches of the October International break and it will certainly be pivotal for some countries. The matches will be played on 6th October IST early hours, 5th October in South America.

Bolivia vs Brazil

Venezuela vs Uruguay

Chile vs Ecuador

Colombia vs Paraguay

Argentina vs Peru

Key Matches:

  • Colombia vs Paraguay:

Colombia are currently 3rd in the table with 26 points while the Guaranis are 7th in table with 21 points. It will be a crunch encounter as Los Cafeteros will be eyeing to register a home victory and book their spot for the finals. Falcao, James Rodriguez and David Ospina all are available for the Colombians while the visitors Paraguay will be hoping to contain the star studded attack of the hosts.

  • Chile vs Ecuador:Perhaps the biggest match of Chile in the recent years. The two time back to back Copa America Champions were awful in their last couple of qualification matches as they lost to Bolivia and Paraguay. Now it’s a stern test for them against Ecuador, who are also with an outside chance of qualifying if they win and things go in their favor. For Chile, it’s a must win match and the likes of Vidal and Sanchez will have to show their class to overcome a gutsy Ecuador side.
  • Argentina vs Peru:Both the teams are on 24 points and with same goal differences. Argentina sit 4th and Peru sit 3rd. So the winners of this match will make a huge leap towards automatic qualification. Los Albicelestes have the big names but so far they have under performed. Argentina coach Jorge Sampaoli has dropped the likes of Higuain and Aguero and have selected Dybala, Icardi and Bendetto as striking partners of Lionel Messi, three of whom haven’t yet scored a single International goal so far. Peruvians will be travelling to South and they will be banking on their talisman Paolo Guerrero to upset the Argentines.

Our Predictions:

Bolivia 1 1 Brazil

Venezuela 0 2 Uruguay

Chile 2 1 Ecuador

Colombia 2 0 Paraguay

Argentina 1 1 Peru
