Liverpool’s campaign has been derailed since their 5-0 hammering to Manchester City followed by two unforeseen draws against Sevilla in UEFA Champions League group stage encounter as well as Burnley in Premier League at Anfield.

To add to the misery, the Reds were knocked out from the Third Round of League Cup competition against today’s opponents’ in an identical midweek clash at King Power Stadium – the ground where Jurgen Klopp’s men have failed to grab a single point after 2014. But the Merseysiders turned things around this evening as they clinched an enthralling 3-2 win and are now back on track towards their league objectives.

Liverpool were in full control since the beginning of the game. Emre Can hit the post from distance and Mohamed Salah failed to put it into an open net from the rebound. But Leicester’s resilience did not last long as Salah scored from a header after picking up Philippe Coutinho’s sublime cross. Coutinho himself then doubled the lead from a magnificent free-kick a few minutes later. The Foxes, being two goals down, looked more purposeful late in the first half and came close to pull one back via Jamie Vardy. They eventually scored one in the added minutes of the first half from a corner when Shinji Okazaki put it into the net after Simon Mignolet and Joe Gomez failed to clear the ball. The goal, however, was a controversial one as Okazaki seemed to have fouled Mignolet in the process. First-half thus ended 2-1 in favor of the visitors.

Leicester City kept on pushing for an equalizer since the inception of the second-half. But it was the Reds skipper Jordan Henderson who restored the two-goal lead after picking up substitute Daniel Sturridge’s pass. However, it lasted for 90 seconds only and Leicester City hit back soon as Jamie Vardy heads home from close range banking on Liverpool’s defensive frailty. Mignolet, the Reds custodian, conceded a spot-kick a few minutes later but saved his side from another humiliation by denying Vardy’s resulting strike. The scoreline remained the same and Liverpool clinched a massive 3-2 win ahead of their trip to Russia to encounter Spartak Moscow in their Champions League group stage outing.
