India consolidated their lead in the One Day Series against the Aussies with a solid 50 run victory at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata yesterday. India are now 2-0 ahead in the five match series.
How it Happened:
Opting to bat first, Virat Kohli’s men made a solid start with Rahane and Virat Kohli, after Rohit Sharma lost his wicket. Kohli and Rahane put up a 100 run stand before the latter departed. India were 186 for 3 but kept on loosing wickets in regular intervals. Captain Kohli fell 8 short of his 31st hundred and the tail battled to post 252 on the board in a seaming track of the Gardens.
Chasing 253, Aussies lost wickets early, as both the openers were victim of Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s tight bowling. Indian seamers up front kept it tight but the baggy greens slowly built a partnership as captain Steven Smith and Travis Head countered. But Indian spinners Yuzuvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav turned the tide in men in Blue’s favor. Kuldeep bagged a hat trick also that proved to be a killer blow for the visitors. Marcus Stoinis fought down the order with a 62 but he ran out of partners in the end.
- Virat Kohli again was India’s main man in batting as his classy 92 helped the home side to reach the total.
- Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Kuldeep Yadav both picked three wickets each and were instrumental in India’s defend of the total. Kuldeep was the 3rd Indian to take a hat trick in the ODIs.
- Marcus Stoinis was a good with bat his knock wasn’t enough to give Aussies the elusive victory.
- In Australia bowling, Nathan Coulter Nile was impressive as the fast bowler rattled India’s top and middle order.
