Premier League club Manchester United have been keeping tabs on Atletico Madrid player Saul Niguez.

The Red Devils recently sent their scouts to watch Atletico take on AS Roma in the UEFA Champions League. With Michael Carrick beginning to plan his departure from the club, United are looking for a long term replacement for the midfielder.

The Daily Star has reported that Jose Mourinho is also seemed to be interested in Belgian midfielder Radja Nainggolan. Currently playing at AS Roma, Nainggolan also featured in the match against Atletico Madrid last week.

After playing 11 seasons at Old Trafford, Michael Carrick is currently at his final year at the club. The midfielder signed a one year contract extension earlier in May. Carrick is yet to play for The Red Devils this season, but with Paul Pogba suffering a hamstring injury against Basel, it looks like Carrick might finally play his first game this term.

Saul has netted nine goals in the last two terms for Diego Simeone’s side and has established his position in the team’s starting XI. The Spanish midfielder had the chance to open the scoring for Atleti and give his side the win against Roma, but failed to do so. Regardless of this, Saul did put up an eye catching performance at the Stadio Olimpico.

If United are to sign a replacement for Carrick then they will preferably go after Saul, instead of Nainggolan. The Spaniard is one of the most creative midfielders in the La Liga right now, and also has the capability of scoring goals in a regular basis. However, he did sign a massive nine year contract extension with Atleticp, meaning that United would have to offer a huge amount of money if they are to convince the 22 year old to sign the contract with The Red Devils, anytime soon.

Nainggolan on the other hand has been a huge target of Chelsea FC, The Blues have been wanting to sign the player for a long period of time but failed to do so. Conte tried to lure in the player to Stamford Bridge last year, but was not able to convince him.
