The defending Premier League champions Chelsea’s winning streak of four matches in a row has come to an end following their goalless settlement against their rivals from North London, Arsenal on Sunday at Stamford Bridge.
Both Chelsea man-in-charge Antonio Conte and the Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger had some surprising decisions in lining-up their first XI. The Blues manager decided to bench their star player Eden Hazard as he believed that the player is “very close” to be 100% fit to play. On the other hand, Wenger’s decision to bench his best player Alexis Sanchez preferring Alex Iwobi surprised the experts. He had to miss the German playmaker Mesut Ozil due to a minor injury.
The home side started the game in a very positive manner. But after the ten to fifteen minutes, the visitors started dominating the game. But only two key events happened in the first half. First went in favor of Chelsea, when the Spaniard Pedro received a delightful ball from his international teammate Cesc Fabregas breaking the offside trap. But he failed to send the ball past the Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech. The second chance came in the end of the first half, following Aaron Ramsey’s individual brilliance to dribble through the Chelsea defense but ended up hitting the post. The situation got worse when the French forward Alexandre Lacazette missed the open sitter, that he received from the rebound.
In the second half, Chelsea had the better chances, but they failed to break the Arsenal’s stable defense. In addition, the situation got worse as the Chelsea defender David Luiz was shown marching orders following a straight red card after his horrible two challenge on the Arsenal left wing back Sead Kolasinac in the 87th minute of the game. With this event, Chelsea have ended their last three games with ten men against Arsenal.
