The recently concluded ODI series between Sri Lanka and India in the island country saw the visitors India absolutely dominated the hosts, and registered a resounding 5-0 clean sweep in the series.
India were by far the superior side in every department while the Lankans did fare well in patches, but that obviously was not enough to put up a show against the preponderant Indian side.
1st ODI: India won by 9 wickets
2nd ODI: India won by 3 wickets
3rd ODI: India won by 6 wickets
4th ODI: India won by 168 runs
5th ODI: India won by 6 wickets
Now this amazing performance was most because of every player doing their own duties in their own department, but still there were some players of the Indian team who exceeded and oozed class that blew away the Lankans.
The Indian captain was one of the main pillars of Indian batting and he led the batting folks from the front. The outstanding batsman not only scored runs, but scored them big. He was the highest run scorer in the series with 330 runs and with an astounding average of 110. He scored two hundreds in the series and one of them came in the final ODI where he steered the men in blue towards victory. Apart from his batting, he has also grown as a captain. His skipping qualities were evident with every field placing and some uncanny but effective bowling changes, especially with Kedar Jadhav.
Rohit Sharma was another player who fared extremely well in this series. Along with Shikhar Dhawan, Sharma batted exquisitely on top of the order and gave India decent starts most of the time. Rohit is a great player no doubt and when it comes to class, he definitely belongs to the top, but another thing in this series he did well is his temperament. He scored a total of 302 runs and was the 2nd highest run scorer after Virat Kohli. Rohit’s highest score was 124 in the series and his strike rate was a staggering 97 per 100 balls.
Probably played the most important knock in the context of the series, MS Dhoni showcased his ability and experience in every match. He was a lot more realistic and his approach with respect to the situation was quite another thing. He scored a total of 162 runs without being dismissed in the series.
Dhoni, along with Bhuvneshwar Kumar shepherd India home in the 2nd ODI which proved to be crucial in terms of the series. He reached several milestones in this series as he reached his 300th match landmark and it can be said that MS still has a lot to give to Indian cricket.
India’s bowling was up to the marks in every match and young star Jasprit Bumrah was the pivotal man there. He has been emerging as a top notch bowler and he bamboozled the Lankan batsmen with his skills. He picked up a total of 15 wickets in the series with a best figures of 5 for 27. His bowling early in the inning and at the death both have been quite influential and Lankans had no answer to that. Surely Bumrah is the star to look forward in the coming years.
