Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil completed four years at the club yesterday since he was signed from Real Madrid in 2013 and to add to his day, he posted a huge message on social media regarding current affairs at Arsenal and his feelings towards the club.
Mesut Ozil wrote on Facebook about his arrival at Arsenal and his moments with the club, and along with that he had a clear message in this time of crisis, that is to unite. Last couple of weeks has been hard as an Arsenal player or supporter, and Ozil is no exception of that.
“It’s September 2nd, 2017. I’m with the German National team right now, and yesterday we took a big step towards the World Cup in Russia after beating Czech Republic 2-1. During the last couple of days my DFB teammates have been asking me about how everything is at Arsenal at the moment. They claimed to have read about the current crisis through the media, as pundits and former players are commenting on a daily basis. They say that this could be the worst team in years, even decades.
He said that he joined Arsenal after he was assured that he is joining a great club and that Arsene Wenger convinced him to join the great club.
Ozil has often been a subject of criticism at Arsenal, and the German went on to write about that as well-
“Personally I’ve had to accept a lot of criticism during my time in London. ‘Too expensive, too greedy, bad body language, and lacking fight’ – this is what people have said about me. Some of these comments are made by those who do not know me, some are made by former players – both successful and unsuccessful during their time here at the club.”
The former Real Madrid man has a message to all the Arsenal legends that has taken a dig at them this season, that is to stop criticizing and support the squad in this hard time and he urges the legends to ‘behave like legends.’
Ozil then continued to thank the Arsenal fans, who have been so passionate about him. He says, “When I leave the Emirates after a game, I see the fans standing along the street cheering. When I’ve played well, I hear you sing my song, and this makes me incredibly proud, giving me goosebumps every time.”
But along with all these the German star has also admitted that he has an uncertain future ahead as he is out of contract this season and hasn’t yet penned a deal.
“Even though I personally do not know how my career will continue after this year, I look forward to my fifth season with Arsenal. This is because Arsenal is a great club with great people and great traditions.”
These last lines may be something of an indication regarding Ozil’s future that may well be somewhere another at the start of next season but there may still be something positive from Ozil’s side if the team starts performing up to the marks.
Arsenal fans took this message well and kind words were poured in Ozil’s post. Something to be relieved finally for the Gooners after all these horrible and frustrating times.
