Analysis: How effective are the new signings for Chelsea


The Premier League champions, Chelsea have started the season on a very disappointing note following their poor results in the pre-season friendlies and it was catalyzed by their frustrating transfer activities losing the main targets.

The Blues had already lost Romelu Lukaku to their rivals Manchester United earlier this season. The situation got worse recently as their targets Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Fernando Llorente have been snatched from in front of their nose by their rivals Liverpool and Spurs respectively. 1. Willy Caballero (Goalkeeper):

The former Manchester City goalkeeper has joined Chelsea on a free transfer following the departure of Chelsea’s second choice goalkeeper Asmir Begovic to the Premier League side Bournemouth earlier in the season. 2. Antonio Rudiger (Defender):

The former Roma defender was unveiled as the second signing for Chelsea for a transfer fee of £31m. With the permanent departure of the skipper John Terry to the Championship side Ashton Villa, Chelsea were in search of a high profiled defender. Moreover, their hunt for the defender increased following the permanent departure of the youngster Nathan Ake to Bournemouth and loan move of Kurt Zouma to Stoke City. 3. Tiemou Bakayoko (Midfielder):

Chelsea completed their third signing of the season after they secured the deal for the ex-Monaco midfielder Tiemou Bakayoko for an undisclosed fee. Although, it is believed that the amount might have £40m. With the departure of Chelsea’s midfield duo including Nemanja Matic and Nathaniel Chalobah to Manchester United and Watford respectively, Chelsea manager Antonio Conte had to go for an extra option in the central midfield along with Cesc Fabregas and Chelsea’s player of the season N’Golo Kante. 4. Alvaro Morata (Forward):

Chelse’s biggest deal of the season came in as their fourth signing following the inclusion of the former Real Madrid forward Alvaro Morata for a huge amount of £71m. With the expiring contract of the unsettled Frenchman Loic Remy, this signing is certainly a huge boost for them. The striker already has started performing for his new club scoring two goals and providing two assists.

5. Kylian Hazard (Midfielder):

The younger brother of the Chelsea superstar Eden Hazard has been unveiled as the fifth signing for Chelsea from the Hungarian side Ujpest F.C. The player is subjected to included in Chelsea’s development squad.

6. Davide Zappacosta (Defender):

The deal for the ex Torino’s right-wing-back has been agreed on the transfer deadline day for £23m. After missing out so many targets, Chelsea fans might find some worries following the arrival of the Italian, who has not been the highlighted.
