Spanish side Valencia signed Geoffrey Kondogbia on Monday. He joined the club on a season long from Inter Milan with an option to buy next season.
This will be the second outing at the backyard of the 2010 world champions for the French star, after previously having played in Spain for Sevilla. The 24-year old had been part of the Andalusians’ side back in 2012-13 season.
The French star moved to his country to Monaco in 2013 before moving to Italian giants FC Internazionale Milano the following season for €31m.
After having an average first season under Roberto Mancini, he was again inconsistent in the next season under new bosses Frank De Boer and Stefano Pioli, despite garnering 25 appearances a season on average.
He really lost favour with the fans after he scored a bizarre own goal against Chelsea in the pre season earlier this summer. New Inter manager Luciano Spaletti already brought in two new central midfielders in Borja Valero and Mattias Vecino and with both Italian sensation Roberto Gagliardini and Joao Mario being very much in contention for first team action, Konodogbia’s place was in serious jeopardy.
It is reported that Inter was reluctant to let go of the youngster at first, but agreed finally after he fell out with the management.
The former Nerazzuri central midfielder told the reporters that he was looking forward to his new challenge at the new club. “I’m delighted to be here,” he added.
Kondogbia will be reuniting with his Inter team mate from last two seasons, Colombian defender Jeison Murillo. The 25-year old also was loaned out by the Italian giants earlier this month, to the Mestalla with an obligation to buy after two years on loan.
The Los Che were delighted at the arrival of their new player and released a statement to confirm the same.
“Valencia CF have reached an agreement with FC Internazionale Milano on Monday for the loan this season until the 30th of June, 2018, with option to buy, of the French midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia.”
Valencia have won their opening league match against the Las Palmas this weekend and the two former Inter players are scheduled to make their debuts soon.
