Three implications of Romelu Lukaku’s performance in Manchester United colours

Romelu Lukaku has scored in consecutive matches after signing for his new team Manchester United.

Manchester United began their Premier League campaign with back to back 4-0 resounding victories against West Ham and Swansea City; and new signing Romelu Lukaku has scored in both occasions.

With these victories, United wasted no time to signal their title intention to their rivals as they brushed aside the opponents in the course of the 90 minutes.

The likes of Juan Mata, Paul Pogba were discharging their midfield duties in aplomb in tandem with new signing Romelu Lukaku as the Belgian forward fired United into the lead with a header in the very first match.

With the superb showing of the former Everton man, we take a look at the critical points about the Manchester United forward against West Ham United.

Romelu Lukaku over the years has been subject to transfer speculation as his services have been widely sought after by several teams across Europe.

Chelsea were initially linked with the powerful forward but he eventually signed for the Red Devils for a record fee with Wayne Rooney going the other way round (joining Everton) in the transfer.

Lukaku was productive in front of goal in the Pre-season friendlies and his performance against West Ham United suggests that the Belgian striker is unfazed by his huge transfer fee as he bagged a brace in a 4-0 victory on match day 1 of the Premier League irrespective of some doubtful minds following his move to United.

It appears that the former Everton striker is set to flourish at Old Trafford with his positive performance over the weekend.

His awareness and link-up play in the final third was spot as he combined superbly with sensational talent Marcus Rashford time and again. He also met Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s wonderful delivery from set-pieces to score a goal for the Red Devils. This was a clear sign that the forward is ready for the big step in his career. This is in contrast to his Chelsea days where his partnership occasionally with Fernando Torres was relatively unproductive.

The time is now for United and Lukaku is ready to take up the mantle just like the legendary strikers that have won the United shirt and brought glory to the club over the years.

The forward has already banged in 3 goals from his two matches, and he is poised to score more for sure.

The likes of Arsenal’s new sensation Alexander Lacazette, Oliver Giroud and Chelsea’s Alvaro Morata (who signed from Spanish Giants Real Madrid) were on target in their respective fixtures too but the trio found the net once each, unlike Lukaku. Last season’s top scorer Harry Kane did not hit the target at all in his first two matches.

All in all, Lukaku looks a better prospect of clinching the season’s top scorer award ahead of the others. This is certainly due to the quality of personnel (Lingard, Mata, and Pogba) around Lukaku who will serve as a catalyst despite the presence and prolific ability of Sergio Aguero.
