Transfer Update : Another Chelsea star is set to depart before transfer deadline

Chelsea lost their season opener against Burnley, and people are saying that their transfer policies are affecting them.

Chelsea suffered a major upset in their title defense last evening when Antonio Conte’s men were humbled by minnows Burnley at Stamford Bridge. The Premier League holders ended the game with 9 men ( skipper Gary Cahill and Cesc Fabregas were shown Red) and despite netting twice in second half, they suffered an unforeseen 2-3 home defeat.

Chelsea’s lack of squad depth, Conte’s transfer policy and his rift with exiled Diego Costa were under scrutiny by pundits as well as supporters. Also, the Blues transferred out a few of their top prodigies and some were sent on loan for regular minutes at senior level. Although they brought in the likes of Antonio Rudiger, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Alvaro Morata for hefty fees, the London heavyweights failed to land both Alex Sandro and Virgil Van Dijk so far as their respective sides are unwilling to let their prized resources leave this summer.

But the mass exodus continues at Chelsea and Baba Rahman, the Ghanaian left back, is reportedly set for a second successive loan spell with Bundesliga outfit Schalke 04. He made 21 appearances for them last season before he suffered a season ending cruciate ligament injury. Schalke have lost their left back Sead Kolasinac to Arsenal who decided not to sign a new contract and join the Gunners on a Bosman transfer.

Schalke sporting director Christian Heidel has confirmed the interest as the club is sighting him as an instant alternative of Kolasinac:

“We are in talks with the player, his agent, and Chelsea. Ultimately, it is about when Baba will be able to play again. No decision has been made yet.”

Baba Rahman was recruited by the then gaffer Jose Mourinho back in the summer of 2015 from Augsburg and made 23 appearances altogether during the calamitous 2015-16 season where the Blues finished 10th in the league. Lack of opportunities eventually led him to return to Germany and the player apparently does not belong to Conte’s plans either. Another loan deal seems imminent for the 23-year-old defender who is set to join the long list of players who have been shown the door by Chelsea.
