Chelsea look to bid again for Drinkwater

Chelsea have had some decent signings this summer but despite all of that, the reigning Premier League Champions haven’t started the season as they would have wanted. And now manager Antonio Conte is looking to strengthen his squad with the addition of Leicester midfielder Danny Drinkwater.

Chelsea are reported to be interested in the England International and plan to make a bid for the player, which is not their first one.

Danny Drinkwater may bring smiles in Chelsea supporters’ face

Chelsea’s first bid around 15 million pounds was rejected by Leicester and they are planning to make another bid for him, which is around 25 million. The departure of Nemanja Matic has created a defensive void and Conte is eyeing to fill that as Chelsea will take part in many competitions during the course of the season.

As revealed by Telegraph Sport, Drinkwater is also interested in a move to Chelsea but the midlands side may well be raising his price for the Londoners. Leicester may try to put up a fight for Drinkwater and demand the £40 million Chelsea received from Manchester United for Nemanja Matic.

Kante also joined Chelsea from Leicester

But the 27 year old may find it difficult to establish himself as he will definitely be behind Tiemoue Bakayoko, Ngolo Kante in the pecking order. This signing will also aid in Chelsea’s homegrown players woes, as departures of Terry, Begovic and other youngsters have created a huge gap there.

Other than trying to strengthen his midfield, Conte wants at least one new wing-back and a forward player. Chelsea are also considering a bid for central defender Virgil van Dijk, who has asked to leave Southampton.

Also players like Oxlade Chamberlain, Barkley and Joao Cancelo are in Conte’s radars and he might look to rope some of them in before the transfer window shuts.
