Arsene Wenger spoke to the media after Arsenal’s dramatic win over Leicester in the Premier League opener and concluded the immediate future of Olivier Giroud, which is that the Frenchman will stay at Arsenal. The Arsenal manager also hailed Giroud’s mentality and dedication for the Gunners.

Giroud came on from the bench and scored a crucial winner for the Gunners on Friday and Wenger was quick to admit how important he is for the team. There has been a speculation all this summer that the France international may leave after Arsenal signed Lacazette. He has been linked with Everton, West Ham and Marseille most recently. But Wenger confirmed that his star man will stay and fight for his place.

“I must say I opened the door for him at some stage because I know that it’s important for him to play, but I don’t want him to go and in the end he decided to stay. It was one of the days of recent weeks for me because I know how important he is, not only as a player, he is a fantastic player, but as well in the group,” Arsene said when he was asked about Giroud’s current situation. He also said that Giroud has a big weight in the squad and he is relieved that his compatriot is staying.

Arsene clearly said that there is no way that Giroud will leave and he stated it as a “Determined No”.

The former Montpellier man has been at Arsenal since 2012 and Wenger believes he is at his prime now and will be pivotal for Arsenal’s title challenge this season. Speaking of his squad strength, the Arsenal boss admitted that he has this variety of quality after a long time.

“It’s a long time since since we’ve had so much quality because Giroud is in his prime, he is at the top of his game. We have top quality.”

Giroud scored his 99th goal for Arsenal in all competitions, which speaks of his volumes despite being a constant target of Arsenal fans in the past. Arsenal still have something to do in terms of people staying as both Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil hasn’t yet renewed their contract.
