After an absence of two years following a betting scandal, Chennai Super Kings are set to return in IPL from next year. The hugely supported franchise have already taken strides to their comeback and they want to retain their famous core of the team and support staffs.
Speaking to Z news, they cleared that considering their past success in winning the tournament multiple times, the franchise is already considering having some of their past players back in the fold. And it is easy to guess their central focus of the auction, that is their captain MS Dhoni.
MS Dhoni has been a stalwart for the CSK franchise and has provided them the IPL twice, along with being the most consistent team of IPL history. And it is easy to predict that the CSK thinktank would welcome him back as soon as possible. Beside that they also will be stoked to keep the core part of their squad, that includes the likes of Ravi Ashwin, Jadeja, Raina and Mccullum.
K George John, one of the company’s directors spoke to Times of India and said, “If we are given an option of retaining a player, it will definitely be Dhoni. We haven’t yet discussed with Dhoni as his contract with (Rising) Pune Supergiant ends later this year. However, we will speak to him in the future.”
“It’s a new start. We don’t want to go back. Our passion is cricket and we will stick to it. On Friday, we will have two activities on social media to mark the team’s return,” he added.
The team has been supported and backed by their supporters even during their ban period and the franchise director thanked their fans for staying behind the team.
Dhoni is India’s most successful ODI captain
Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals, both the franchise that were expelled for two years will make a return next year in the IPL in the expense of two current franchises, Rising Pune Supergiants and Gujarat Lions.
