Manchester United have signed Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic for a transfer fee believed to be £40 million and the former Benfica star becomes the third signing of the Red devils this summer.
United have announced that they have signed the Serbian on a three year deal.
By this, the Serbian reunites with Jose Mourinho whom he had in his Chelsea days. Jose brought him back to Stamford Bridge from Benfica and Matic has again reunited with the Portuguese manager, now at the Red half of Manchester. It takes United’s summer spending more than £150 million.
The Serb said: “To work with Jose Mourinho once again was an opportunity I couldn’t turn down. I cannot wait to meet my new team-mates and to start training with them.”
Matic joins Manchester United from Chelsea
“This is a very exciting time for the club and I am looking forward to playing my part in creating more history for this great club.. I have enjoyed my time at Chelsea and would like to thank the club and the fans for their support,” he further added.
Jos Mourinho is obviously delighted to land him at Old Trafford as he is a long time admirer of the Serbian international. He said that Matic is a United player and represents every quality a footballer must carry, namely loyalty, consistency and ambition. The Portuguese further said that Matic is a team player and thanked him for joining.
Matic won two Premier League titles with Chelsea
United preferably wanted to lure Eric Dier but Spurs didn’t allow that, so Mourinho had to look for his second option, which was Matic. And he believes that arrival of the Serb will definitely give Manchester United the defensive stability in the midfield they require.
Jose Mourinho has signed three players so far this summer
Matic will join the team and play United’s next friendly against Sampdoria, and then Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup three days later. United start their campaign in the Premier League against West ham at home.
