Kuldeep Yadav is one of those rare cricketers who have enjoyed a dream debut in both Tests and ODIs.
India’s only, and Asia’s second chinaman bowler, the youngster has impressed one and all with his bowling skills. Indian captain Virat Kohli has also been left in awe by the Uttar Pradesh bowler, who made his ODI debut on Sunday in the second game against the West Indies which India won with much ease. Kuldeep rose to the occasion with the ball and picked up a 3 wicket haul in his very first chance.
Kuldeep Yadav was actually supposed to make his ODI debut in the first of the 5 ODIs, however, since the match was abandoned due to persistent rains, he had to wait for another 2 days to don the blue jersey. He took the wickets of West Indies opener Shai Hope (81), middle order batsman Evin Lewis (21) and skipper Jason Holder (29).
Virat Kohli praised Kuldeep, highlighting that the bowler is not easy to score runs from. Kohli was also fascinated by the variations Kuldeep brings to his spin.
“When batsmen try to attack, he can slow his pace down, just beat the batsmen halfway into the pitch. So he (Kuldeep Yadav) is quite amazing with what he does with the ball. I’ve faced him in the IPL as well, he’s not easy to get away — especially when the wicket is dry like it was today,” said Kohli.
Virat also pointed out that the cross-seam deliveries Kuldeep Yadav bowls can give a tough time to the batsmen. Usually bowlers bowl seam- up deliveries turning in and cross seam bowling the googly. But Kuldeep can do both bowling cross seam, which can bamboozle even the best of batsmen.
Kohli also hinted that the playing XI for the third ODI will be changed, which means Rishabh Pant may get a chance to replace Yuvraj Singh.
