Arsenal’s failure to retain ‘top four’ status for the first time over two decades and the Gunners’ boss Arsene Wenger’s contract extension have outraged their fan-base.
Also, the uncertainty over Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil’s contract situation is a major concern prior to the upcoming campaign and the club, finally seems to be ready to break the bank in pursuit of their key transfer targets.
Both Sanchez and Ozil, whose contracts will run down next summer, have reportedly rejected a new deal and are exploring options for greater glory. Sanchez scored 30 times in all competitions for the Gunners and his absence will cost them big in order to pursue a top-four finish and get closer to a title triumph. Wenger, however, has already sighted other options and as per reports from reliable Sky Sports, Arsenal are in advanced talks for Lyon forward Alexandre Lacazette and is ready to match his €50m (£44m) asking fee.
The 26-year old French international has progressed through the youth ranks of the Ligue 1 outfit and has been performing consistently for past four campaigns. He featured 275 times for them scoring 129 goals in all competitions and netted 37 times in 45 games this season. His prolific goal scoring record earned him loads of acknowledgements as well as attention in recent past and several Premier League outfits have been monitoring his situation for past 12 months.
West Ham United’s £43 mil bid was rejected last summer, also the Gunners had a failed attempt to recruit him after their £29m bid was dismissed by the French heavyweights. Wenger, however, is impressed with his consistency and goal poaching instinct and ready to make an ambitious bid this term with a view to make him club’s record signing over Mesut Ozil’s £42.5 million (€50 million) move from Real Madrid in summer 2013.
Arsenal, meanwhile, have expressed strong desire of concluding a mega-money move to bring in AS Monaco’s teenage sensation Kylian Mbappe who will cost more than £100 mil. But there is interest from other parties ( including Real Madrid and Liverpool) and considering their absence from Champions League, Lacazette is going to be a shrewd buy to reduce Arsenal’s Giroud dependency.
