German Bundesliga side FC Bayern Munich have signed Olympique Lyonnais midfielder Corentin Tolisso for a transfer fee of 35 million.
The German champions have confirmed that the player has signed a deal that will keep him at the club till 2022.
The 22 year old can play in many positions both attacking and defensive and has come through the ranks at Lyon since age 13.
Tolisso scored a total of 14 goals and provided with seven assists in the French Ligue for his side as Lyon qualified for the Champions League and his brilliant performances for Lyon has also attracted interest from other top European clubs such as Juventus and Premier League teams Chelsea, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspurs.
On Wednesday, Tolisso passed his Bayern Munich medical at Bayern’s Sabenerstrasse HQ in Munich and then officially penned down his contract.
Bayern Munich chairman, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge stated that: “We’re really pleased we’ve been able to sign such a young and interesting player.”
Rummenigge also added that they are pleased that Tolisso signed for the German champions, despite attracting a lot of attention from abroad. Rummenigge also said Tolisso was Bayern manager, Carlo Ancelotti’s wish for their midfield.
After making his move to Bayern, Tolisso told the club’s website that: “I had a wonderful time at Lyon, and I’m very thankful for that.” Tolisso said that he is pleased to be playing for one of the top teams in the world, in Bayern Munich and he has great aims during his time at Bayern.
Tolisso, who is a very versatile midfielder who is easily capable of fitting in various positions, will be looking to fill the void left by Spanish star Xabi Alonso, who retired at the end of last season.
At International level, France coach, Didier Deschamps handed Tolisso his debut in a 0-2 defeat to Spain back in March, which till date remains as his only appearance for his country. Tolisso was a unused substitute in France’s 3-2 win over England in Paris on Tuesday night.
