Virat Kohli praises Indian bowlers, calls them match-winners

Kohli also stated that the graphs of all these bowlers are going only upwards.

In the build-up to India’s all-important clash with Sri Lanka tomorrow, captain Virat Kohli could not resist raving about the improved bowling department that India has made in the last couple of years.

“It feels extremely good to have not just 1-2 but 4-5 bowlers who can turn the game on its head with their skill. We as batsmen get a lot of confidence because of this. It gives us the assurance that bowlers will do their job and if we do well as batsmen, the match can certainly tilt in our favour,” he said.

The 28-year old emphasised on the importance of such a bowling attack in the largest format of the game and also explained that it is possible to turn things around with the bat in ODI single-handedly.

The Indian bowlers have been at their finest best in the three games that India have played in the Champions Trophy so far – two warm-up games against Bangladesh and New Zealand respectively and then the opening encounter of the tournament against Pakistan. The figures of the bowlers were – Umesh Yadav: 3 for 30 in 7.4 overs, Bhuvneshwar Kumar: 1 for 23 in 5 overs, Hardik Pandya: 2 for 43 in 8 overs, Ravindra Jadeja: 2 for 43 in 8 overs, Jasprit Bumrah: 0 for 23 in 5 overs.

Kohli also stated that the graphs of all these bowlers are going only upwards. He also added that India’s bowling, according to his understanding of the game, will only get stronger. If India win against Sri Lanka tomorrow, it will guarantee them a place in the last 4. In case they lose, it will make their last group game against South Africa on June 12, a must-win encounter.

But since Sri Lanka will be missing the services of Upal Tharanga, who has been suspended for two games and Angelo Mathews, who is injured,  India can capitalize on that and win the game.
