The qualification scenario for the Indian Premier League, as always, has become immensely exciting as the tournament progresses to the business end. As of now, only Mumbai Indians are certain but Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad will get a chance to seal their deal tomorrow.
In pursuit of the playoffs, Sunrisers Hyderabad will face Gujarat Lions today. This is a side who have struggled for most parts of this year’s IPL and this game might be just another bad day for Suresh Raina and co.
The batsmen have delivered in most games, but the bowling department has been terrible for Gujarat this year. And the last game was another example of that. After posting a humongous total of 195, it should have been an easy win for them. However, Delhi Daredevils managed to pull off a stunning victory as Shreyas Iyer played a fantastic innings of 93 after an early collapse. The Lions will definitely not want another disastrous performance in the last game of the season.
Sunrisers, on the other hand, returned to winning ways in their last outing against Mumbai Indians. After restricting the table toppers to a modest 138, Shikhar Dhawan led from the front to guide his team to victory with 10 balls to spare. They will rely on the destructive opening pair of Dhawan and Warner once again, as the bowling department’s charge will be on the shoulders of Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
The Kanpur pitch has helped the batsmen so far in this season. And the toss winner may choose to chase. The match will kickstart at 4pm in the afternoon.
The Sunrisers may choose to tweak their starting lineup, with Kane Williamson making way for Mohammad Nabi. The Afghan allrounder bowled brilliantly last time he played and his offspin might come handy against the likes of Raina and Ishan Kishan. The rest of the team should remain unchanged.
Gujarat Lions, on the contrary, should continue play an unchanged eleven, mostly because of the fact that they do not have backups in their ranks.
Gujarat Lions: Ishan Kishan, Dwayne Smith, Suresh Raina (C), Dinesh Karthik (WK), Aaron Finch, Ravindra Jadeja, James Faulkner, Dhawal Kulkarni, Basil Thampi, Pradeep Sangwan, Ankit Soni.
Sunrisers Hyderabad: David Warner (C), Shikhar Dhawan, Moises Henriques, Yuvraj Singh, Vijay Shanker, Naman Ojha (WK), Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammad Siraj, Siddharth Kaul.
