After a disappointing defeat against Arsenal, Manchester United players know that they have to win the Europa League to secure a berth in the Champions League next season. And tomorrow’s second leg semifinal is the penultimate hurdle to achieve that glory.
Jose Mourinho knew that the Europa League victory is going to be the easiest path to Champions League spot, and so, he did not start with his first eleven against Arsenal. The consequence was a 0-2 defeat against Arsene Wenger, and the boss would hope that the loss will not curb the spirit of the players when they take on Celta Vigo in the second leg of the Europa League semifinal on Thursday.
The first leg:
Manchester United won the first leg 1-0, thanks to a magnificent free-kick from Marcus Rashford, and that away goal might be one important factor to reach the finals.
Manchester United have been suffering from a lot of injuries and this time too, Mourinho will miss a few crucial parts of his ploy. Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Marcos Rojo, Luke Shaw, Ashley Young and Timothy Fosu-Mensah are going to miss the actions at Old Trafford. But, Juan Mata and Paul Pogba have returned from injuries and are getting ready for this game. On the other hand, Rashford got some rest during the Arsenal game and he, along with Antonio Valencia, Eric Bailly and Daley Blind are expected to return to the starting eleven tomorrow.
Here is the predicted lineup for Manchester United:
Celta de Vigo, much like their opponents, have been preparing for the Europa League semifinal. They have been in a dismal form in the domestic league and so, are giving everything for the continental competition. Celta’s recent run in the La Liga includes four back to back defeats, and they would want to change the fortunes at Old Trafford. One good thing about them is that their form on the run in the Europa League has been spectacular. Eduardo Berizzo’s side have got three 2-0 wins and a 1-1 draw from their four away fixtures; and the Spanish club will hope for another inspiring performance on Thursday.
The boss has given rests to most of his first team players over the weekend’s La Liga outings. And so, they will be energized and fit to take the field tomorrow. Here is the predicted eleven for the visitors:
Europa League Betting odds:
Manchester United win: 8/15
Celta de Vigo win: 5/1
