Already out of the title race, Gujarat Lions have nothing to lose as they travel to Mohali to take on Kings XI Punjab on the second game of Sunday. On the other hand, the hosts will have to win this fixture to stay in the hunt for a playoff position this season.

Kings XI, with 10 points from 10 games, might manage to push themselves into the top four even if they lost against the Lions. However, considering that the last three games are against the current top three of the league table, that would definitely be a difficult task. Thus, Glenn Maxwell will hope for no slip-ups against Gujarat Lions on Sunday.

Last matches:

In the last match, Punjab travelled to Bangalore to take on RCB and they emerged victorious against the last boys of IPL 2017. Chasing a target of 139, the Challengers fell short by 19 runs. On the other hand, Gujarat Lions scored a humongous total of 208 against Delhi Daredevils during their last outing. However, their bowling department failed miserably once again, and Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant toyed with them to reach the target with 15 balls to spare. Suresh Raina will hope for a better outcome this time, albeit they will play for glory only.

Team news:

Marcus Stoinis will be out for the rest of the season with a shoulder injury. In addition, this might be the last games for Hashim Amla and David Miller as well. The South African duo will probably return to their international duties after Sunday. Here is the predicted eleven for the Kings:

Martin Guptill, Hashim Amla, Shaun Marsh, Manan Vohra, Glenn Maxwell (C), Wriddhiman Saha (WK), Axar Patel, Mohit Sharma, Varun Aaron, Sandeep Sharma, T Natarajan.

Gujarat Lions are also suffering from injury woes. After Dwayne Bravo and Andrew Tye, star batsman Brendon McCullum has been ruled out for the rest of the season. They now have only four foreign players in their ranks. One among the four is UAE’s Chirag Suri who has not yet made his T20 international debut. Thus, there is a chance that they will go with three foreigners, and will bring Irfan Pathan back to the team in place of McCullum.

Here is the predicted eleven for Gujarat Lions:

Dwayne Smith, Ishan Kishan, Suresh Raina (C), Aaron Finch, Dinesh Karthik (WK), Ravindra Jadeja, James Faulkner, Irfan Pathan, Pradeep Sangwan, Basil Thampi, Ankit Soni.
