Manchester United have been handed a huge injury ahead of their Europa league clash against La Liga outlet Celta Vigo.
Four of injured players- Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Paul Pogba and Eric Bailly have returned to training today prior to their semi-final first leg away visit. The return of three defenders into training will surely ease the tension of Jose Mourinho who only had Daley Blind as the only proper first team defender in the team after Bailly injured his ankle against Swansea in the last game week. Pogba will also return in the midweek after suffering a knock in the Burnley match as he missed two games on a trot.
Chris Smalling and Phil Jones were sidelined for over a month after both the English defenders suffered the setback during their International campaign whereas, on the other hand, Marcos Rojo suffered a season-ending ACL injury in their match against Anderlecht at Old Trafford to put Manchester United in a tough situation without any backup defender. Blind took the defensive duty in the meantime of their absence and Eric Bailly played a continuous 9 matches on a trot before getting injured.
Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has been discerning of both the English defenders for not making themselves available earlier and had said he did not expect either to be eligible for the first leg of the Europa League semi-final in Spain, but now he may finally have a reason to be cheerful.
Manchester United will face a crunch tie against Spanish outlet Celta Vigo which could be their only chance of Champions League football next season as the Red Devils are currently struggling in the domestic league, sitting 5th, and with two big away matches to come, it could be hard for them to finish in the top 4. But with total seven games in May, including two-legged Europa league semi final and final (if they qualify) and just one point off the top four to keep the hope alive in the league, this is a very welcome news for the whole team.
Celta Vigo is currently in 11th in the league however if going by the form in the Europa league they have shown a steady display there and Manchester United will need most of their superpowers at their place.
