After a humiliating defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders and an abandoned match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Royal Challengers Bangalore are ready to turn the tides around against Suresh Raina and co.
Both Gujarat Lions and Royal Challengers Bangalore have had a terrible campaign so far. While the away side are at the bottom of the table with 4 points from 7 matches, the Bangalore side are only two places and a point above the Lions. Three musketeers Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle or AB De Villiers have not been at their best and as a consequence, the side failed miserably on many occasions, including the recent disastrous trip to the Eden Gardens. In that match, Royal Challengers were bundled out for a paltry 49, registering a new record for the lowest ever score in the IPL history.
Gujarat Lions, on the other hand, lost their last match against Kings XI Punjab. Chasing 188, it was only Suresh Raina and Dinesh Karthik who could put up some resistance to the Punjab bowling. But, then, some disciplined bowling from spinners Axar Patel and KC Cariappa helped Punjab restrict Gujarat for 162 from 20 overs. Throughout the season, the Lions have suffered heavily from a very poor bowling attack. The absence of their star allrounder Dwayne Bravo cost them heavily and they have already brought in Irfan Pathan as the replacement. It would be interesting to see if he gets a chance in this game.
Three of the foreigners’ spots in the home side are probably going to go to De Villiers, Shane Watson and Samuel Badree. Considering the poor form of Gayle, the team management may choose to pick Adam Milne or Tymal Mills over the big West Indian and let Mandeep Singh open with Kohli.
Gujarat Lions will also have to think hard while choosing their four foreigners. Brendon McCullum and Aaron Finch have performed brilliantly at the top of the batting order. However, Dwayne Smith’s form has not been the best and so, James Faulkner might be reintroduced to the eleven in his place. Andrew Tye is surely going to be there to lead the bowling lineup from the front while Pathan might also get a go in this fixture.
Here are our predicted elevens for the two sides:
Royal Challengers Bangalore: Virat Kohli (C), Mandeep Singh, AB De Villiers, Shane Watson, Kedar Jadhav (WK), Pawan Negi, Stuart Binny, Tymal Mills, Samuel Badree, Yuzvendra Chahal, Sreenath Aravind.
Gujarat Lions: Aaron Finch, Brendon McCullum, Suresh Raina (C), Dinesh Karthik (WK), Ishan Kishan, Ravindra Jadeja, James Faulkner, Irfan Pathan, Andrew Tye, Praveen Kumar, Nathu Singh.
Last time they met:
It was a happy outing for Royal Challengers who piled up 213, thanks to blistering knocks from Kohli and Gayle. In reply, despite McCullum’s 44 ball 72, the Lions could only manage 192 from 20 overs. Chances are high that we would see yet another run fest between the two teams.
Kohli and De Villiers can boast of outstanding stats against Gujarat Lions and they will be the key to success for the hosts. It should also be kept in mind that Bangalore have to aim for all wins from their remaining matches and the urge may push the players to be at their bests. The match is scheduled to start from 8pm at the Chinnaswamy Stadium and there is no forecast of rain. The viewers can surely get ready for an enthralling game between two of the last boys of IPL 2017.
