Manchester United’s compelling away win against Burnley have piled pressure on Liverpool once more in their ‘top-four’ chase ahead of Anfield outing against Crystal Palace.
Palace, who have amazingly resurrected their season in recent weeks, hold great run of form in recent years at Anfield where they managed to secure two wins in previous two Premier League campaigns. However, the outcome remains the same this time as well – a Christian Benteke brace snatched another Anfield win for the visitors and sent the Reds in deep trouble jeopardizing their Champions league hopes.

Liverpool started the first half with their trademark passing and pressing game, whereas, the Eagles sat deep and waited patiently to construct counter-attacking movements. Liverpool managed to break the deadlock at around 25th minute mark via majestic Philippe Coutinho who curled his free-kick into the back of the net from 25 yards out. The Reds wasted a glorious opportunity to double the lead when Emre Can failed to direct a simple finish. Palace took the full advantage out of it and kept on piling pressure with long forward balls. Soon they got their reward; it was none other than ex-Liverpool striker Christian Benteke who scored against his former employers and continued his great scoring run against the Merseysiders. The goal came in closing minutes of first half as it ended all square at half-time.
Only Philippe Coutinho had an influential outing as he lacked support from his fellow teammates. He almost found the back of the net, but was denied spectacularly by James Tomkins. Liverpool’s disastrous evening turned out to be a nightmare when Christian Benteke scored again from a corner and completed the turn around for his side. The game ended 2-1 in favor of the visitors as they get closer to a safety.
