Premier League : Title race hots up as big four become available

With the top four strikers in the Premier League finally fit, the title race is hotting up. Only 10 points separate the top six teams in the Premier League.

Up until this point, teams had significant injury issues and form struggles. But with the turn of the year, all major teams and players are fit and in form, with the exception of Coutinho and the soon departing Sadio Mane. The 4 big strikers are once again fit at the same time and all look in good goal scoring form as do their respective teams.

Chelsea had been so dominant for so long this season, but Spurs showed that even the mighty can fall. Tottenham have picked up incredible form over the festive period, and they managed to stop the Blues juggernaut. It has eventually translated into the Spurs breaking into the top 3, after languishing outside the top 4 for long. Arsenal have slipped to 5th following their draw with Bournemouth and they are flanked by Manchester City at the top and United in sixth. Chelsea and Liverpool continue to set the pace, but in this season of uncertainties, you can never be safe.

The middle and bottom halves of the table have not seen too many changes, as Everton, West Brom, Bournemouth, Southampton and Stoke continue their good form. Burnley are the surprise of the season so far in 12th, 3 places abobe last term’s champions Leicester City. Burnley have built on a good defense and managed to squeeze out points every once in a while. Hull, Sunderland, Swansea, Palace keep on struggling and are still fighting to get clear of the relegation zone.
The top 6 teams are all capable of winning this title at this time, as any slip ups are proving very costly. The title will come down to the performance of the top 6 against each other, as the middle and lower teams are easily being brushed aside. United, Spurs, Chelsea all look very strong at the moment, with Liverpool, City and Arsenal looking comparatively unsettled. Once Coutinho and Mane come back, Liverpool will again be the best attacking team in the league. Chelsea have the best defense, but United and Spurs are not too far behind.
Arsenal have been consistent this season, but a few missed opportunities have cost them. They look better defensively now than any other part of the season, and with Giroud catching form, Arsenal will be dangerous in the second half of the season, with injured Aaron Ramsey, Theo Walcott also close to full fitness. Manchester City and Guardiola started the best, but have since tapered off. It could be the new climate or a new team, but Pep has not been able to find his first team yet. With Champions League football also in the fray, Arsenal and CIty will be distracted. However, they both have squads to mount a serious challenge and it will be a close fought title race this year.
