Manchester United legend Paul Scholes claims that Atletico Madrid star man Antoine Griezmann is the right man to replace Zlatan Ibrahimovic at Manchester United.
The Red Devils have been linked with Griezmann for quite a while now and are still trying to lure in the French international as soon as possible. Scholes thinks that Ibrahimovic is not the right man to lead United’s attack and should not be the main striker of the team.
Signed by Jose Mourinho in 2016, the former Paris Saint Germain striker is set to stay at Old Trafford for one more season as Mourinho confirmed his aim to trigger the option of an extra year.
Ibrahimovic has been sensational since joining United, scoring 13 goals in 19 appearances under the Portugese manager this season.
With Anthony Martial linked with a move away from Old Trafford and Marcus Rashford being dropped to the bench on a regular basis Mourinho will need a long term replacement when the 35 year old eventually leaves Manchester.
Antoine Griezmann is a much more rounded and experienced than Martial and Rashford. Griezmann, who was recently named French player of the Year, has been in a great form of his own scoring 6 goals in 15 appearances for Atleti this season.
Scholes recently told BT Sport that: “Marcus can take that role. I’m not sure he’s ready for that role yet but there has to be a point where Marcus says ‘Right, I’m after your place, we’re direct rivals. want your place.”
With the likes of Ibrahimovic, Rooney, Martial and Rashford in the team United already have a total of four strikers in the squad but there is certainly no doubt Griezmann would also be a great addition to the squad.
According to The Times Manchester United are preparing a £145m bid for Griezmann and his Atleti team mate Saul Niguez.
