Liverpool are keen to beat Tottenham Hotspur and Everton to the signing of promising winger Jacob Murphy from Norwich, according to reports. The 21-year-old has impressed at the Championship this term and has caught the eye of a host of top-flight clubs recently.
The report claims that Premier League clubs like Everton, Tottenham Hotspur are monitoring the situation of the winger as well as his brother Josh Murphy who is also a Norwich academy product. However, it now appears that the Red half of the Merseyside have shown the upper hand for Jacob and he could soon be a Liverpool player in the January transfer window. The option of the deal to Liverpool is understood to be a guarantee of a loan back to the club for the remainder of the season.
The 21-year-old Murphy has come up through the Norwich youth system and made himself one of the key elements in the Promotion fight for the Canaries side this season. The young winger has made 25 appearances till now scoring ten goals and providing further four assists for the Championship side.
Prior to this season, the winger spent his most of the earlier times on loan at various clubs like Swindon and Southend, Coventry City. The winger produced an astonishing 17 goals and provided 16 assists during the loan spells in which most impressive one was at Coventry City where he scored 10 times for across 43 appearances.
Murphy mainly plays as an attacking right winger however the youngster can operate in the any of the offensive third of the pitch.
The player is in the last year of his Norwich contract and will not bring a hefty fee to the Canaries. Additionally, the option of loan back till the end of the season could cut the cost more down and hand Liverpool an advantage in the negotiations.
